April Farr

April Farr is honored to be running for New Hanover County Register of Deeds, and she is excited to serve the community in a welcoming, efficient, transparent, and cost-effective manner.

After leaving Wilmington as a child, April returned home to attend UNCW, where she studied criminal justice, Spanish, and public administration and where she was later employed as Business Services Coordinator, and in the Office of Institutional Diversity & Inclusion for nearly a decade. During this time, she served as a lead presenter at the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity, organized Cape Fear Minority Enterprise Development Week and the DNA Projects, trained Safe Zone Allies, provided budget oversight, and attended more than 50 trainings and workshops related to finance, DEI, and Human Resources. More recently, she also held leadership roles as the Director of Operations for the Future is Now Coalition and as treasurer for City Councilman David Joyner’s campaign.

For the past 30 years, April has worked tirelessly as a single mother to raise her two children here and to make Wilmington a better, brighter, kinder place for them to live - and she will undoubtedly do the same as Register of Deeds. She has a long history of local community service, including serving as a certified Guardian ad Litem, and a Board Director for the Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), Operation Pretty Things, and the Humane Society, as well as volunteering for Leading Into New Communities (LINC), Good Shepherd, and the New Hanover County Democratic Party from precinct chair to the executive board. She wants nothing more than to use her expertise in operations, organization, finance, and inclusion to ensure that county services are accessible and equal for all.

As Register of Deeds, April will oversee a robust and diverse office that strives to make your life in New Hanover County easier, and more importantly, that promises to:

  • Streamline record searches and document requests;

  • Advocate for technology upgrades and staff training where applicable;

  • Explore the possibility of creating free workshops related to wills and estate planning, historical document research, and home ownership;

  • Partner with community organizations to provide better services and solutions to the public.

But to accomplish any of this, April needs your vote this November. Please see our events below and contact our campaign at aprilfordeeds@gmail.com to learn more about April, her innovative plans as Register of Deeds, and how to get involved and support the campaign.
